The second eruption of Pompeii happened.

I woke up to a rumble far off in the distance. I looked around worriedly. What was

happening? I leaped out of my comfy bed and looked outside my window. What I saw was much worse than an earthquake. I was in Pompeii, and my hotel was just below Mt. Vesuvius. The towering volcano was having a terrible fit. Smoke, ash, and poisonous gases were pouring out. The volcano was shaking with fury, spitting out boulders. Suddenly, a voice came over the loudspeakers. Ladies and gentlemen, please evacuate immediately. I repeat- please evacuate immediately. Mt. Vesuvian will explode in thirty minutes.

I was already packing my things. But the announcement was wrong. Mt. Vesuvius was already spewing out lava, and from my hotel room, it looked like a river of blood. If I didn't hurry, it would be my blood. Maybe bones, too. I shook my head. I needed to get my head out of the clouds before I regretted it. If I was alive enough to regret it, that is. The lava was rushing towards the hotel. It seemed to be hissing a warning- come closer, come closer. With one wrong step, you will be in this deadly river, burning. I abandoned my suitcase and flew out of the hotel.

The lava surrounded the hotel, creeping around to the back, leaving about 5 feet of distance between me and the river of death. I ran over to the back of the hotel. If I could reach it before the lava did, I would get out of this nightmare alive. Thankfully, the lava hadn’t reached the back yet. I leaped over the fence surrounding it and raced to the closest airport, getting on right before the plane took off. I looked down at the scarlet destruction below me and sighed in relief. I never thought I would survive that.
