Ranger in Time- Hurricane Katrina Rescue

Ranger is a golden retriever who can travel in time. He had practiced as a search-and-rescue dog but failed his test due to a squirrel, but he can still find lost people by using his acute sense of smell. But Ranger has a secret! He has a first aid kit that starts humming whenever someone needs help. One day, while his owners, Luke and Sadie, are sitting outside with their friends, rain starts to fall, and they move the party inside. There, Ranger hears humming from the first aid kit, and it takes him to New Orleans, where a girl named Clare Porter, her nana, and her father are racing against time to pack up and leave the town before disaster strikes. But when her dad went to get gas for the car, the rain started pounding, and the levee broke. There is no gasoline for miles around.  Clare’s nana is old, sick, and doesn’t know she is in danger. Ranger has Clare’s back by giving her moral support when she is lonely, and when Nana is evacuated to a shelter; Ranger helps locate her. He finds Clare’s dad and reunites the whole family. While this story is aimed at kids, it doesn’t sugarcoat the fears during the hurricane. I think it is a stellar read for everyone.
