The Mysterious Footprints
The Mysterious Footprints
It was a burning morning at the Costa Rica Beach. I decided to cool off in the ocean to beat the heat. The waves lapped at my waist, and I sighed in relief. After some time, I retreated to the sand, sopping wet and delighted. But then what I saw made me halt in surprise. A massive footprint was in front of me. It was like a human’s, but on a giant scale. It would take too long for someone to make them. All around me, people were stopping and staring at the mysterious sight. What made them? Is it dangerous? Do we have to evacuate? The air hummed with whispered questions. I marched forward, scanning the ground for creatures that could have created the footprints. I strode on, even though I felt like a mouse in a trap. What use is a vacation if I’m not there to enjoy it?
I followed the strange footprints until I reached the end of the beach. Beyond it were green mountains and forests. I looked up, and jumped two feet in the air! A yeti was sitting on a folding chair, sipping lemonade! I was a goner. That yeti was going to eat me for lunch! And I wouldn’t even get a souvenir! Wait a minute, what did I just see? My brain reloaded the sight that I had seen. So there was a yeti sitting on a folding chair and sipping lemonade? And suddenly, all my fear disappeared.
The yeti was on vacation, just like me! The yeti looked at me and grunted. Then he took a stick and wrote big, wobbly words in the sand- WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE? I couldn’t believe it! I encountered a yeti, and he was communicating with me! I scrawled back- I am on vacation. Then I saw your footprints and decided to follow them. We wrote in the sand for hours. It was starting to get late. I wrote in the sand- Where are you staying? The yeti’s face looked sad, and he wrote, I am actually a bit lost- I meant to go to Malibu, but I boarded the wrong plane! I frowned. I didn’t want my new friend to be sad, so I decided to help him. I motioned for him to follow me, and ran to the closest airport. The yeti strode on. I reached the airport, panting- I was running that fast. The yeti looked at me and made a grunt. I shook off my exhaustion and together, me and the yeti entered the building. The yeti struggled getting through the door, but he managed. As soon as people caught sight of him, they screamed. One man fainted. A worker called the manager. Sweat beads started to form. What if the police came and took my friend away? But when the manager came up, he looked at the yeti and expressed no sign of fear. All he said was “I know what to do with you.” I trotted alongside them. At the very back of the airport, there was a humongous door. Mr. Manager entered a code and the door swung open. “This is where all of our non-human creatures go,” he explained to me. I watched my friend, the yeti, board the plane. I was happy that he could go where he needed to go, but I was sad that he had to leave so soon. I thought that he would forget me, but then, the yeti waved to me and smiled. I smiled. I solved a mystery, made a new friend, and helped a yeti in need, all in one day. And I just earned myself an extra souvenir!
